Aoyama Dissected in Marathon Operation
by Adam Birss
The first human cadaveric dissections took place in France under the watchful eye of Guy de Chauliac during the 1400’s. Until this time cadavers were either only dissected as a part of an autopsy or in an unauthorized way. Anatomy was taught using full length anatomical illustrations.
On Sunday with the bat it appeared as though several of the Wombats had taken tutelage from de Chauliac himself, slicing and dicing the attack to all parts of the field. Unfortunately when bowling it seemed they missed the lecture on how to cut clean down the middle of the wicket, managing to have the umpire raise both arms to his side a whopping 90 times – much to the chagrin of the record crowd of 6 that had gathered.
The recent success of the Wombats T20 opening pair that have often been referred to as the new “Hayden/Langer” in the press was not to be today as the Ja in in the “Jaba” pairing (as fans have come to know them by) turned up late…looking decidedly under the weather. Into the breach stepped Rex “the flex” Kobayashi. This concerned his new opening partner, Birss looked decidedly nervous as he asked “you or me to face mate?”.
Birss a brisk 4 from 6 deliveries before being felled by a ball that many in the crowd thought to be “Very hittable”.
Mick “yes father” Walker and Rex then set about compiling one of the greatest partnerships ever seen at YCAC. including their valuable third partner W.Ides they managed to push the score to 110 in the 10th over before Rex seemed to trip over something invisible (he claimed it was you know what…but we know better) for an exhilarating 62 of 27 balls – much to the delight of his number one fan (other than himself), his mum.
Mick then proceeded to lay down the anchor…by top edging the ball over the square leg boundary to give both himself and his captain, a visibly distraught Ken Dobson a week on the sideline.
The side continued to plunder the bowling, with the help of Ides to close out the innings at 6 / 239.
Then the Wombats bowled…and bowled…and bowled. A total of 31 overs if you count the balls bowled. Lead honourably by “I don’t bowl” Ross Welsh whose 21 ball over was the pick of the bunch.
Thankfully, the Wombats had the runs on the board and with the help of Ali (4 overs 2/14), Satyam (4 overs 3 / 14 wides 10!), Ashfaq (4 overs 1/10).
Ayoyama batted out their allotted 20 overs (and their bonus 11 overs) to finish the innings at 9/139.
